چکیده

Respiratory function tests; exercise test; child. The maximal cardiorespiratory test on treadmill or bicycle ergometer is used to evaluate the cardiac, vascular, respiratory and metabolic performance in both healthy and sick individuals, in addition to determine the physiopathological causes that limit it1. The protocols are selected according to the objectives and the experiences of the laboratories that perform them and can be treadmill ramp protocols independent from the ergometer. Thus, Prado et al2 studied the cardiorespiratory and metabolic responses during the progressive exercise test in children, comparing the results with those obtained in adults. The study results demonstrated that the children present lower cardiovascular and respiratory efficiency, as well as higher metabolic efficiency during the test; however, when compared to the adults, the children presented similar levels of exercise capacity.

Influence of physical activity on cardiorespiratory fitness in children after renal transplantation.

BACKGROUND Cardiorespiratory fitness is significantly reduced in children with end-stage renal disease. The role of renal transplantation in improving cardiorespiratory fitness has not been thoroughly investigated. METHODS In this work, we wanted to assess whether, in children after a successful renal transplant, the amount of weekly physical exercise affects cardiorespiratory fitness and lef...

[Cardiorespiratory responses during progressive maximal exercise test in healthy children].

BACKGROUND Little is known about cardiorespiratory and metabolic response in healthy children during progressive maximal exercise test. OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis that children show different responses in cardiorespiratory and metabolic parameters during progressive maximal exercise test when compared with adults. METHODS Twenty-five healthy children (gender, 15M/10F; age, 10.2 +/- 0....

Metabolic, cardiorespiratory, and neuromuscular fitness performance in children with cerebral palsy: A comparison with healthy youth.

The aim of this study was to assess metabolic, cardiorespiratory, and neuromuscular fitness parameters in children with spastic cerebral palsy (CP) and to compare these findings with typically developing children. 40 children with CP (21 males, 19 females; mean age, 11.0±3.3 yr; range, 6.5-17.1 yr; Gross Motor Function Classification System levels 1 or 2) and 40 healthy, age- and sex-matched ch...

Using the oxygen uptake efficiency slope as an indicator of cardiorespiratory fitness in the obese pediatric population.

The aim of the current study was to investigate the relationship between the Oxygen Uptake Efficiency Slope (OUES) and traditional measures of cardiorespiratory function in an overweight/obese pediatric sample. Maximal treadmill exercise testing with indirect calorimetry was completed on 56 obese children aged 7-18 years. Maximal OUES, submaximal OUES, VO(2peak), VE(peak), and ventilatory thres...

Do Obese Children Perceive Submaximal and Maximal Exertion Differently?

We examined how obese children perceive a maximal cardiorespiratory fitness test compared with a submaximal cardiorespiratory fitness test. Twenty-one obese children (body mass index ≥95th percentile, ages 10-17 years) completed maximal and submaximal cardiorespiratory fitness tests on 2 separate occasions. Oxygen consumption (VO2) and overall perceived exertion (Borg 15-category scale) were me...
